Priests from the Avondale Parish celebrated Mass in local Catholic homes in Swanson and Henderson.
The first church of the Western district was built in Swanson.
On 6 August 1911 Henderson officially received its first Catholic Church, a small wooden building on View Road. The small wooden Church was built on land donated by a Catholic family.
The little wooden building was extended and, on 16 September 1923, the Church was dedicated to the Exaltation of the Holy Cross.
Concerned for the Catholic education of their children, parishioners developed a school which opened in 1932, staffed by the Sisters of Mercy from Avondale.
The parish was established as an independent parish, covering Hobsonville, Whenuapai, Massey, Swanson and Henderson.
A new, larger brick building replaced the small wooden one and was opened and blessed on 20 November 1960. Its interior was renewed in 1973.
Served by the Capuchin Friars for almost 30 years, the parish continues to grow, welcoming new parishioners alongside the descendants of those who first built a Church here over a century ago.
